The pandemic has wrought havoc on all sectors of society, putting an abrupt stop to business as usual and forcing stakeholders to quickly adapt to a wide range of new challenges. These unprecedented disruptions have brought to fore the importance for businesses, of all sizes and in all sectors, to have their business continuity plans in place.

According to research by the Business Continuity Institute (BCI), organizations with existing business continuity plans were better able to respond to effects of the pandemic than those without. The current circumstances have also reinforced the idea that the business continuity plan is a "living document" - a process and collaborative discipline that involves all members of an organization.

The Business Continuity Awareness Week (BCAW) campaign was designed by the BCI to raise awareness of the importance of business continuity, its basic and essential best practices, and how to embed it within the organizational culture. This year's theme is "Business Continuity Starts With You," highlighting the importance of engaging employees in crafting and implementing their organization's business continuity plans and training them on mitigating different risk and threats.

The Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF), will be celebrating Business Continuity Awareness Week 2021 by showing how business continuity cuts across all sectors. This week-long activity will highlight how these essential principles are practiced by different groups: the private sector; micro, small, medium enterprises (MSMEs), the public sector, women and other marginalized groups.
